This blog is about my swimming adventures - mostly in and around Chicago's Lake Michigan - with occasional posts from exotic ports of call (tropical open water swim races or scuba dives).
It's purpose is to depict safe and satisfying open water swimming experiences through pictorial promotion of safe swimming devices (safety kayaks and personal flotation devices) and practices (buddy swimming, knowing your personal temperature and time limits).
The first swimmer jumps into the 57 degree water off of Alcatraz Island - only 4 out of 19 swam w/o a wetsuit.

Water Chop was 3 to 4 feet in the channel. From the water, San Francisco looks more like its 3 miles instead of 1-1/2 miles away (this picture shot from about halfway back). Wicked-Fast Currents!!!
